Big Adventures or Tiny Adventures? Both sizes keep life fun and interesting, but it’s the Big adventures which fuel the AF Man’s imagination. When there are many miles to travel down a winding road, or along a bumpy trail things get interesting. Life just seems to serve up its own helping of a tasty treats in those scenarios. A veritable smorgasbord of unusual places, characters, situations and predicaments.
Remember, the AF Man “ain’t getting any younger” so Big Adventures provide their own challenges and require new approaches to the miles one might travel each day. The thing is, going slow has its own rewards. Enjoy the AF Man’s stories of Big Adventures!
In the summer (make that the very hot summer) of 2010, the AF Man made his first serious bicycle tour, pedaling from St. Augustine, Florida, to Taos, New Mexico. They say, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” Welp, two thousand miles later, the AF Man says, “They be right!” These are the stories he lived to tell.
The AF Man’s sons had to coax him into coming along for a one hundred seventy-five mile meander up the Appalachian Trail, from Springer Mountain, Georgia, to Fontana Dam, North Carolina. Admittedly, lost a few times, mainly in awe most of the time, the AF Man brought back these stories of the joy, pain and awakening along the “People’s Trail.”
The After-Fifty Adventure Girl is joining The AF Man in October 2016 for a Big Bicycle Adventure. The AF Man is turning sixty, and The AF Girl just completed medical school at fifty-seven. They ain’t getting any younger — so together, they’ll pedal from Seattle, Washington, to San Diego, California. Yikes!
