Each real-life adventure is chock-full of his bumbling attempts to navigate the great outdoors like he actually knew what he was doing. But it will quickly become clear to even the most sympathetic reader that he did not have a clue.

Among these tales, you will find the kind of surreal situations and weird-but-true folks that will make you say, “Yes, I need another synonym for ‘quirky’?!” Bible thumping? Hallucinating? Imminent fiery death? Yup. Yup. Yup. And yet the stories also convey the beauty of the forest, the kindness of (most of) the quirky people — and, of course, a heaping serving of the angst of negotiating life after the Big Five-Oh.
